COVID-19: Falling Apart and Bouncing Back. A Collective Autoethnography Focused on Bioethics Education

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted academic life worldwide for students as well educators. purpose of this study is to shed light on the collective adversity experienced by international medical and bioethics educators caused in relation both personal life. authors wrote their subjective memoirs then analyzed them using a autoethnography method order find similarities differences between experiences. results reveal some consistent patterns experience that are captured two metaphors: Falling apart Bouncing back. “Falling apart” involves breakdown daily lives during initial stages pandemic, shown through quotes contextualized authors’ commentary. consensus returning home transition remote education were main reasons breakdown. “Bouncing back” encompasses recovery after breakdown, achieved acquiring new information about virus, discovering how continue hobbies at home, such working out or dancing, learning adjust exam expectations. At educational level, course, which guided ethical dilemmas played an important role recovery/bouncing back process. For reason, we report it was learn teach subject knowledge applied better understanding coping with moral related pandemic. testifies importance explains can contribute shaping resilience future practitioners.
